The Mentoring Program at the University of Greenwich

University of Greenwich - Business

I studied accounting and finance half a generation ago and one reason perhaps, why I’m not working in that industry today is simply that I wasn’t prepared for the industry.

The University of Greenwich has something quite different and special happening as I recently watched in the YouTube video below. Take a look:

The University of Greenwich has a very unique mentoring program with Northern Trust where business school graduates spend time learning about the industry they’ll be moving into.

Wilson Leech, Head of Northern Trust EMEA mentoring at Greenwich, describes that students:

  1. Must be prepared for their future roles
  2. Must understand the roles and the industry they’ll be moving into
  3. Must work to develop a network inside the industry
  4. Attempt to find a mentor who can help prepare you for the industry you’re entering

Mr. Leech highlights the most important element of success in starting your career and progressing is work ethic and the importance of finding a mentor. The mentoring partnership between the University of Greenwich and Northern Trust helps prepare students for the industry by giving exposure to technical work, regulatory impact and client expectations.

So if you are considering your future and the transition between university into employment and a career, keep the University of Greenwich in mind and the value of a meaningful mentoring program.
