John Holdren is Santa Claus
The news from America that John Holdren is Barak Obama’s chief scientific adviser is the best Christmas present the human race could hope for. For the past eight years, quite frankly, it has more than “got on my tits” that whilst America controls UK foreign policy and dominates the future course of events on this planet, I don’t get to vote for the President. There is no democracy in the fact that my children’s future was being flushed down the pan by an American President who thought global warming was some sort of liberal conspiracy to undermine US industrial power. Now we have someone who seems to be able to think for himself, act for the world and do the blindingly obvious, listen to the scientists. I never thought I would ever say this but, “God Bless America.”.
There is an enormous mountain to climb but at least the Americans look like they are putting a serious expedition together. The climb leader is a man who simply doesn’t mess about with words, he knows we are in deep ubuntu at this time and he knows that something has to be done now or the ubuntu will just keep spreading.
“Holdren “has been one of the most passionate and persistent voices of our time about the growing threat of climate change,” Obama said. “I look forward to his wise counsel in the years ahead.””

Chistmas Shopping: Shoes are the perfect gift!
I never seem to have an idea what to buy the man who has everything but a journalist in Iraq appears to have found the perfect present; shoes! Perhaps he skimped a bit on the wrapping but there was no shortage of gusto in his presentation.
The Unlawful Killing of one man’s Human Rights
Words, just words….. don’t you feel as though the world we are all living in is run by people who use words to wriggle and squirm their way through reality?
Christmas? Bah Humbug.
It’s the credit crunch that’s making this Christmas a little more depressing than it should be. The bitter cold and short dark days doesn’t help cheer things up.

Roksanda Ilincic at the V&A

As I entered the large mosaic-paved room, impressed by the church-like high ceiling and the massive Raphael paintings from the 16th century that surrounded me, I knew I was about to witness a very special fashion show.
