View Full Version : More Africa photos
IndyHazle 30-06-2006, 01:25 AM I wanted to show someone a photo the other day on my web site and then
I looked at my site and realized. I never finished creating it!
I figured I better just get some of these photos up into Kodak
Easyshare and quit wasting time.

Wayne,
sorry, but the site asks for my email address or mobile phone
number. I'm not willing to hand either of these out, for obvious
reasons.

Which one did you try?
None of them should ask for that. Let me know which one you tried and
I will try to fix it.

H-G, when are you going to put up your Kenya wildlife photos? Seems
like it's been "Kenya (Coming Later)" for years now ...

Bill,
sorry for that. The scanner is gathering dust in front of my
nose.
But I'm getting closer. I think I'll be able to scan the photos
towards the end of this year.
Meanwhile please have a look at the fresh ones, like in
http://www.michna.com/kenya2006/ , where some new ones have been
added recently.

Hans, Georg,
thanks for sending the Kenya 2006 report with photos, great to read
about your safari and I enjoyed the photos. How did you find Kenya
this year, any particular changes in attitude etc? I know that we
can`t know how things are from the newspapers, being there is always
the best way.

Pat,
what I sense is a certain disillusionment with the new
government. In other words, the number of people who won't vote
for it is slowly rising.
Otherwise many people in Kenya enjoy rapidly rising living
standards. There is now a considerable middle class, people who
work in factories or service industries around Nairobi and other
major cities and towns, who have a house or a nice apartment and
a car.
I have no statistics, but the huge supermarkets that have sprung
up in and around Nairobi and other towns speak for themselves.
Uchumi has gone bankrupt, shops were closed. They may yet rise
from the ashes, but we'll see what happens. I haven't followed
the incident and am not up to date.
The ATMs have become unreliable, unfortunately. That hits us
travellers a little. I'm talking about the Barclays ATMs that
give you money on the strength of the ec card that's ubiquitous
in Europe. We could still use them, but we had to run around a
few times.
I saw several lodges expanding strongly. Tourism appears to go
up, which is generally no surprise. Prices for tourists will
surely go up too. This is bad for me, but it may be good for the
wildlife reserves, so I won't complain.
Generally Kenya seems stable, which is good. I saw many signs of
stability and am under the impression that many Kenyans want the
country to remain essentially as it is, of course with certain
improvements.

Thank you for that Hans Georg,
I find your comments to be very positive for Kenya especially your
impression that the country seems stable, as for costs for tourists,
Liz has said that she finds it`s expensive in Kenya and has to go
elsewhere. I haven`t been for seven years but will go again, it still
remains in my heart! I do keep in close touch with the news and am an
active member of Mwananchi Yahoo group, started by Abdul Yakub who
used to be on soc.culture, kenya you may recall.
Greetings to you.

ngeresa 13-07-2006, 10:09 AM Kenya is one of the few countries in Africa that has a lovely
atmosphere.Despite of the political problems that are going on right
now, people here are friendly and always happy.
The number of ATM machines has increased we now have a franchise called
pesa point that allows all VISA card holders to withdraw money from
their ATMs.
The number of wireless connections for internet has also increased
making it easy for you to operate with your laptop around the city. All
you need is a I burst card and 160$ a month to surf the internet 24hrs
a day.
We welcome you to Kenya to enjoy the great Maasai Mara Migration thats
taking place right now.
Apart from that Kenya has a variety of beutiful scenaries and cultures
that will always please any tourist that visits.
You can visit our official website for more information about Kenya and
Its neigbouring countries.
