Get ready for spring with the crème de la crème in makeup trends spotted during the 2016 spring-summer catwalks. Minimalist, nude makeup, 90’s revival: the options are countless…

  1. Red or nothing

Dark and gothic lips were everywhere last winter and this trend is going to last through to the summer. Painted lips are here to stay so opt for burgundy or a bright red among the most fashionable hues. With lips so bright you probably won’t need lip fillers to get noticed. If you opt for red lips, avoid highlighting other areas of your face to keep it the main zone of focus.

  1. Twiggy eyes

Channel the most famous 60’s British model Twiggy with this mod trend that will give you instant doll-like features. Apply generous coats of black mascara on your eyelashes for maximum effects. Combine with false eyelashes for a more dramatic evening look or if your eyelashes are a little too sparse or short.

  1. Fresh eye-shadow

Orange eye-shadow is perhaps the trickiest trend to rock this spring but applied subtly around the eye, it’s very wearable and great to wake up tired eyes. It’s also very good news for all of you blue-eyed girl out there as orange and blue work particularly well together and it make your eyes pop.

  1. Healthy glow

Less is more in terms of foundation this year. For a more natural but healthier look, use a little bronzer to frame the face and highlight cheekbones, bridge of the nose and neck. But use sparingly or it will ruin the overall effect and make your face look too orange for its own good.

  1. Nail art

If nail art wasn’t your forte so far, you will have to up your game . Very kitsch when it first entered the fashion scene, it’s quickly becoming unavoidable on the catwalks and everywhere else. In 2016, fashion editors of the New York Times recommend matte nail polish, geometric shapes (think stripes and checks), metallics and bi-colour.

  1. Nude makeup

The nude makeup trend has been around the block for a while now and it reappeared in a big way following up the Ralph Lauren SS 2016 catwalk. Opt for a discreet foundation with minimum bronzer powder, a nude lipstick that will compliment your skin tone, a single coat of mascara on the eyelashes, and you’re good to go!

  1. Sprouty eyebrows
Good news at last: flyaway hairs are in so you can at last ditch the cumbersome eyebrow kit and tweezers! Natural and youthful eyebrows will be all the rage this year. Brush up or add sprouty hairs at the inner corners of your eyes and fix with a little gel, in the style of supermodel Gigi Hadid.
