Electrical Safety First app helps you make your student house safer

| December 30, 2014 | 0 Comments

The news rarely moves me quickly into action but the other evening as I watched a man’s story of how he lost his house due to a 9-volt battery in a drawer, I had flash-forwards to this being me. I immediately emptied my drawer’s of all floating batteries.

There are dangers around us and many aren’t so obvious. In your student house are you worried about food poisoning? Well maybe you should be! The folks at the Electrical Safety First website highlight food poisoning at towards the top of what should be one of your concerns along with avoiding burning down your house.

Other tips for survival include getting your deposit back, how to save on your food bills, how to not miss home and even how to get on with your housemates.

They even have a free safety app that highlights tips on how to conduct a safety check of your home.

With so much to lose I recommend all students download the app now, and the QR codes below make it easy for you 🙂

Some of the tips may seem obvious (ensure plugs and sockets are not damaged) whereas others, less so (check that you have RDC protection to your fusebox). Personally the app has helped me identify problems and potential safety risks in my own home and I’m certain it can help you too).

The rest of the Electrical Safety First website is helpful and I think you’ll enjoy all the tidbits they have to offer about surviving your first student home.

Take a look at their site and download the app to let us know what you think. We look forward to your comments below and in the meantime make sure you don’t get stuck with the box room by reading the infographic below.
