What Should I Do with My Degree?

Many people get out of college and have no idea what they want to do with their lives. If you have a new degree, but you’re not sure of what you should be doing with it, you are definitely not alone. Here are some suggestions for what you could potentially do with your degree for some of the more popular college degrees out there.

 

Psychology

 

When you get a degree in psychology, you should have a pretty thorough understanding of how the human mind works. With this type of knowledge, you can get into many different career paths. Obviously, there are several different types of psychology that you could get into with this type. For example, you could pursue a job in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, sports psychology, forensic psychology, health psychology, or occupational psychology. If you do not want to be a psychologist, you could get into other careers such as counselling, educational guidance, psychotherapy, social work or even speech therapy. Having a psychology degree can open up the doors to a lot of different careers.

 

Law Degree

 

Once you have secured a law degree, you have successfully navigated through a very complicated subject matter. In this situation, you could become a solicitor or a barrister. As a solicitor, you will be able to work directly with clients giving them legal advice. As a barrister, you will represent clients in court. If you do not wish to do either of these things, you could teach law in school, become a paralegal, get involved with legal publishing, or even become a legal executive. You may even be able to become a legal consultant for companies who need help in this area.

 

Mathematics Degree

 

If you managed to secure a degree in mathematics, it means that you have a very analytical mind. This can be beneficial in many different areas. If you are good with numbers, you can be useful in several careers. For example, many people with math degrees become actuaries for insurance companies. You could get involved in finance and work in the banking or investment industries. Some with math degrees decide to become engineers or statisticians. Some with this type of degree also get involved in computer programming of some kind. You also always have the option of becoming a math teacher.

 

History

 

With a history degree, there are a number of different types of occupations that you could choose to get involved in. For example, you could pursue a job as an archaeologist, a researcher, a museum curator, or a history teacher. Some people with history degrees get involved in working as a tour guide or as a consultant. You could also lecture at universities or in seminars. Historians are also useful in the publishing industry, as they provide expertise on many different subject areas.

 

English

 

If you have a degree in English, there are many different jobs that you could pursue, depending on what you enjoy doing. For example, if you want to get into the teaching side of things, you could teach at regular schools, colleges, universities or at seminars. Many people with English degrees decide to get into media and work in journalism. You could work in television or radio. Some also choose to become writers and write their own books, articles, and papers.
